The History Curriculum at Lindley CE Infant School
History Curriculum Intent
At Lindley CE Infant School, our History curriculum is designed to help every child grow, learn and shine by developing a strong understanding of the world around them and how it has been shaped over time. Rooted in our values of Respect, Friendship and Trust, we inspire curiosity about the past and support children to become thoughtful, reflective historians. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum from EYFS to Year 2, children build knowledge of people, places and events, beginning with their own lives and progressing to local, national and global history. Our curriculum is driven by three key “Big Ideas”: chronology, continuity and change, and significance, enabling children to understand when things happened, how and why things have changed, and why people and events are remembered. We use a range of sources, including artefacts, stories and our local area, to support enquiry and develop critical thinking. Through this approach, children gain the knowledge, vocabulary and skills to ask questions, make connections and communicate their understanding with increasing confidence, preparing them for the next stage of their historical learning
