The Geography Curriculum at Lindley CE Infant School

Geography Curriculum Intent

At Lindley CE Infant School, our Geography curriculum is designed to help every child grow, learn and shine by developing a deep understanding and respect for the world in which they live. Rooted in our values of Respect, Friendship and Trust, we inspire curiosity about places, people and environments, encouraging children to explore both their local area and the wider world. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum from EYFS to Year 2, pupils build knowledge across locational and place knowledge, human and physical geography, and geographical skills and fieldwork. Our curriculum is driven by three key “Big Ideas”: investigating places, understanding patterns, and communicating geographically, enabling children to make sense of their surroundings, recognise similarities and differences, and use maps and fieldwork skills with increasing confidence. Through enquiry-based learning and real-life experiences, including fieldwork and the use of a range of sources, children develop the knowledge, vocabulary and skills to ask questions, interpret information and make connections. This approach supports children to become curious, informed and responsible citizens who understand their place in the world and how they can contribute to it
